Overview

A mobile app allows customers to order pastries on their phones and have them ready to serve when they arrive at the bakery. Customers can also reserve a table for themselves if they are dining in, saving them time and hassle. The app also benefits the bakery by reducing queues and waiting times, and increasing efficiency for staff.

The Problem

La Baguette Magique, a beloved bakery for two decades, is struggling to keep up with the morning rush and lunchtime crowds. Loyal customers are growing impatient as they wait in lengthy queues, sometimes for upwards of 15 minutes, just to place their orders and pay. This frustrating experience is driving customers away, forcing them to seek out their pastry fix elsewhere.

The Solution

With our mobile app:

  • Customers can effortlessly order their favorite pastries and prepay for takeout or home delivery.

  • But that's not all – those who fancy dining in, can reserve a table in advance, ensuring a seamless experience.

How does it work?

The app crafts a personalized QR code packed with all the order and reservation details. When customers stroll into the bakery, a quick scan at the door magically guides them straight to their reserved table.

It's more than just convenience; it's a time-saving, hassle-free delight for our customers.

Mood Board

Design idea:

The design aims to evoke a nostalgic and comforting atmosphere reminiscent of a grandmother's garden, filled with warm lighting, earthy tones, and the irresistible aroma of freshly baked goods.

Design goal:

The goal is to create a space where customers feel welcomed, relaxed, and transported back to cherished memories of childhood visits to grandma's house.

Design decisions:

  • Homey and down-to-earth theme: the ambiance should be inviting, warm, and reminiscent of a cozy cottage kitchen.

  • Simple Four-Color Palette: A limited color palette ensures visual interest, professionalism, and ease of navigation.

  • Bakery Vibe: The brown color is deeply associated with baked goods and evokes a sense of warmth and tradition.

  • Magical Touch: A touch of soft pink adds a hint of whimsy and enchantment, aligning with the bakery's name "The Magic Wand".

Style Guide

Color scheme:

  • Primary Color - White: dominates the palette, serving as the background color to impart a sleek, minimalistic, and modern look and feel, contributing to an overall clean and contemporary aesthetic.

  • Secondary Colors - Soft Pink and Brown: play a supporting role, strategically used to highlight essential information, adding subtle warmth and elegance to the visual identity.

  • Accent Color - Coral Pink: takes center stage as the accent color, reserved for buttons in their active state. This vibrant hue symbolizes the touch of magic, infusing an enchanting quality to interactive elements.

Typography:

  • The Merriweather font family was chosen for its versatility and ability to convey both classic and modern sensibilities.

    • Merriweather: chosen for its classic appeal that seamlessly aligns with the bakery's image, ideal for titles;

    • Merriweather Sans: a contemporary counterpart that imparts a modern look, ensuring optimal legibility in headlines and body text.

Hi-Fidelity Prototype

Next Steps

  1. Conduct usability testing with LBM Bakery's customers to pinpoint and address potential issues and understand which features are most desired by them.

  2. Augment the app's functionality by incorporating additional features, such as the product, favorites, account pages, and social media buttons.

  3. Design a responsive website version of the app to expand the reach of LBM's offerings.

  4. Conduct an accessibility audit on both the mobile app and website to ensure they meet industry standards and guidelines for disabled users.

  5. Perform usability testing on the fully developed prototype to identify and fix any usability issues.
